Saginaw, MI – The Saginaw Community Foundation has elected Tammy L. Bernier, Richard J. Garber, and Jimmy E. Greene to its Board of Directors. They will serve on a volunteer basis for the nonprofit for four-year terms.
Bernier is the Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and co-owner of Duperon Corporation, an international company that designs, develops, and manufactures filtering equipment for dams, pumpstations, wastewater and other industrial applications. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of business administration management degree from Saginaw Valley State University and has 30 years of management and family business experience. Bernier serves on the governing boards of the Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Saginaw County; Water & Wastewater Manufacturers’ Association; and Saginaw Women in Leadership. She is also involved in the business partnership for the 0-5 Child Head Start Program and a member of the One Hundred Club in Saginaw.
Garber is the President and owner of Garber Buick in Saginaw and Garber Management Group, which operates in Michigan, Illinois and Florida and consists of eight new vehicle dealerships representing 11 manufacturers and 17 franchises. He is a graduate of Northwood University where he received a Bachelor’s of science degree in automotive marketing. Garber serves on the governing boards of Vision 2020; Saginaw County Crime Prevention Council; Boys & Girls Club of Saginaw County; Saginaw Society for Crippled Children; Tri-Star Trust Bank; Covenant Healthcare Foundation; YMCA; Great Lakes Bay Region Alliance; and Saginaw Future, Inc. He also serves on the Saginaw Riverfront Development Commission.
Greene is the regional membership director of the National Federation of Independent Business. He holds a Bachelor’s of business management degree from Eastern Michigan University. Greene serves as president of the International Academy of Saginaw Board of Directors; chairman of the Lake Huron District for Boy Scouts of America; vice-chair of the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square; and facilitator for Saginaw Valley State University Youth Leadership Program. He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
The new board members will fill the vacancies of retiring directors: Jerry Ulfrey, who has served on the Board of Directors for nine years; and Martin Stark, who has served for eight years.
The Saginaw Community Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which reflects the diversity of Saginaw County. Directors are chosen for their extensive knowledge of the community’s educational, cultural, civic, and charitable needs. They meet monthly to discuss community issues, set policy, oversee investments, and make final decisions on grants.
