Divine’s book, #SheWins, features survivors who have turned pain into empowerment
Saginaw, MI – June 11, 2019 – Michigan native Alisa Divine has written a new book, #SheWins: Harrowing Stories from Women Who Survived Domestic Abuse, scheduled for release on Amazon and in stores nationwide this month. In it, Divine shares the stories of female domestic abuse survivors, emphasizing the triumph of the spirit to overcome and flourish despite what has happened to them. The book has an accompanying online community where women encourage other women to speak up, support each other, and thrive.
“I am honored to have contributed the foreword to Alisa’s new book,” said Duperon CEO, Tammy Bernier. “Alisa and I connected at the YWCA’S Women’s Empowerment Symposium. The #SheWins project is inspiring to me. With as many as 1 in 3 women experiencing abuse by an intimate partner, we know that the stories of these courageous, resilient women featured in Alisa’s book are commonplace. Now is the time to shine a bright light on domestic abuse, get it out in the open, and I love how Alisa is getting the conversation started. I look forward to seeing how her powerful book and mission raise awareness and bring healing and community to victims of domestic abuse.”
Divine, who is also a professional photographer, captured powerful black and white portraits of the survivors, shown before each woman’s story. Each piece ends with their victorious, full-color images.
“We are pleased to assist this mission in a small way, by making a number of copies of #SheWins available to local women in transition from their abusive situations,” remarked Bernier. “All of us have had just the right person or words that moved us beyond fear to hope for a better life. I am proud to say that making a difference and empowerment of dreams is a reflection of the values of the men and women of Duperon Corporation.”
An author, speaker, photographer, and life coach, Divine is also co-owner of Personal Power Press, a publishing company that provides a platform for individuals to tell their stories of turning pain into power. A survivor of domestic abuse herself, Divine’s mission is to “help women and girls transition from where they are to where they want to be in life and in writing.” Divine is also the co-author of Killing Kate, A Story of Turning Abuse and Tragedy into Transformation and Triumph, which will be released in October 2019. Both books raise awareness on domestic abuse.
